According to a campus crime incident report released, it was found that campus incidents peaked in the month of April.

With spring temperatures allowing for more people to come out and enjoy the weather, individuals should also take note that 42 crimes were reported for the month.
Most incidents involved an auto burglary with mostly electronics being taken out of cars. According to the data safety sheet there was an auto burglary almost every day all the way into the 12th of the month.
In almost every case, the belongings in question were recovered, but it’s better to avoid putting oneself into the situation where they could possibly be robbed.
It’s also important to consider that many of the crimes committed on the report were located at campus housing where there is easy access to cars and personal belongings. Thieves did not limit themselves to technology but sunglasses and clothes as well, so no car is safe from a potential burglary.
Other crime reported varied from minor thefts and possession. Throughout the year possession was reported to be a problem with 65 incidents being reported. This means that one out of every four students has been caught with an illegal substance.
Remember, when it comes to crime safety, lock up, take out anything you’re not willing to lose, and be aware of your surroundings.

*NOTE THIS ARTICLE DOES NOT REFLECT THE UTEP CAMPUS CRIME RECORD. IT IS MERELY AN ASSIGNMENT FOR CLASS.
